TAT - Tapas Acupressure Technique
Please note that the following information is intended as a reminder for my clients on how to use particular processes which form part of their homework following one-to-one therapy sessions with myself. If you would like to learn this technique for your own purposes, either for using on yourself or with your own clients, please email, phone or text me to book a one-off skills/techniques session.
How to use the TAT technique in order to go into any negative thoughts or feelings in order to release them
Using your non-dominant hand, place your thumb on the side of your nose towards the top near the bridge of the nose. Then place your third finger (ring finger) on the other side of your nose. Maintain a slight pressure with the fingers, you don't need to press hard. Your middle finger then rests on the forehead, ideally connecting with the 'third eye' position. With your other hand, place it at the back of your head, gently 'cupping' around the skull so that your thumb rests on the occiput (base of the skull). Close your eyes and rest back in that position, breathing into the thoughts or feelings which you want to transform or shift.
Stay in that position, until something begins to change. No matter how slight the change may be, as soon as you experience a change of any kind just relax your arms and hands down, open your eyes and take a short break.
When you feel ready, go back into the holding posture, and breathe into and connect with the thought or feeling again. This time address the thought or feeling with some positive words of your own e.g. “how you're now beginning to let that issue go, how it no longer affects you, how you're moving forward with your life, releasing, relaxing and letting this go, how you're now allowing it become a thing of the past” etc. As soon as you experience another change, relax your arms and hands down, open your eyes and take another break.
If the issue has dropped below a '3' on the scale of '0' to '10', you can then use the words listed below. If it is a '3' or above, then repeat the actions in the paragraphs above until it has dropped to a suitable level.
Whilst in the TAT posture and making a connection with the thoughts and feelings you have been working on, or simply connecting with the memory of the thoughts and feelings you have been working on, use the following words:-
"All the origins of this are healing now" - repeat 3 times. Wait for a change to occur and then take a break.
Then go back into the TAT posture, breathe into a connection with the remaining thoughts or feelings, or the memory of those thoughts and feelings, and then use the following words:-
"All the places in my mind, body and life where this has been stuck are healing now" - repeat 3 times. Wait for a change to occur and then take a break.
Then it’s back into the TAT posture again, breathing into a connection with the remaining thoughts or feelings, or the memory of those thoughts and feelings, and using the following words:-
"All the parts of me that got something out of this are healing now" - repeat 3 times. Wait for a change and then take a break.
Once you’ve taken a break, it’s back into the TAT posture one last time, again breathing into a connection with the remaining thoughts or feelings, or the memory of those thoughts and feelings, but this time using the following words:-
"I forgive everyone and everything I blamed for this, including myself" - repeat 3 times. Wait for a change and then relax the arms and hands down. This concludes the process.
Please note:-
Don't use this posture for more than 20 minutes in a day - it is very powerful and can be very draining. It can also bring up a lot of powerful feelings - so if you find yourself beginning to be overwhelmed stop using it for at least 3 days, and seek advice if necessary.
If any strong negative feelings come up while you are using the process you can, of course, address these by using the EFT tapping technique and then go back and continue the TAT process.
